Girl tracks down infamous boy after he killed her brother in a dystopian LA.

Cover: Display or Shelve?
At first glance, I’d say shelve. It doesn’t particularly stand out. But then you look at it more closely – dramatic girl standing on rooftop looking out over the city – and it’s actually pretty awesome.

Notable Thoughts
I loved this book. Its a bit different to all the other dystopians that seem to only focus on romance. Yes, this has romance, but there’s also action and guns and a cool broken city with some blocks half submerged. Day – the boy is who a wanted criminal – is an interesting (and good-looking – apparently he looks like young Leonardo diCaprio) guy and June – the girl – is very smart and independent and can handle a gun. She also gets to wear cool dresses and military outfits depending on the occasion.

Reread or Remember?
Yep, this is a trilogy. But that’s awesome as I want more of these characters and to see more of the broken cities. I’d definitely reread!

Girl from a family of psychic’s who solves the mystery of a murder in a cool seaside tourist town.

Cover: Display or Shelve?
This cover in real life looks so HD. It’s so sharp and clean. And I bet you didn’t notice, there are these awesome swirls in amongst her hair. Definitely ‘display’.

Notable Thoughts
The town was very cool and atmospheric. The characters were fun, realistic and interesting although I got a bit confused with all the names of the guys. I didn’t guess the mystery but it wasn’t a jaw-dropping discovery and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen something like it before. I got a bit annoyed that the main character (Clarity) would get one hint and suddenly be all like “it was him/her! They did it – they were the murderer! Oh… wait… maybe not…”. I’m also not a huge fan of pyschics.. But it was certainly a fun, easy read.

Reread or Remember?
Another trilogy – not that that is a bad thing. And I would probably re-read but only because its so short and quick to read. Otherwise, I don’t think the sequel Perception really links on so there wouldn’t be much need to.

A Million Suns by Beth Revis

A MILLION SUNS

The second in a trilogy (Across the Universe is first) about a girl unfrozen on a spaceship heading for a new planet and there are lots of mysteries involved.

Cover: Display or Shelve?
This isn’t your typical YA book cover and that’s what I like about it. It fits the story what with the hatch looking out the spaceship (although the main characters are supposed to be teenagers and the models on the front don’t look like that, plus the guy has long hair and darker colouring, but whatever). I’m one for neatness and this cover is all neat and clean and I really like it. So I’m going to say ‘display’.

Notable Thoughts
I loved it. There were even more strange and mysterious things, clues, deaths, doors, just like the first one. Unlike many books (mainly dystopian) where the first novel is one thing or place and then they escape and the second is crazy different, this is more of the same in a very good way. The characters all acted realistically – all of them, every single person on the spaceship – and I felt so sorry for Elder having to try and control them all when a rebellion seems possible. But these characters actually do things instead of thinking about doing something for ages. Every chapter has some big event and I found it hard not to skip ahead!

Reread or Remember?
Like many YA books, this is a trilogy and it’s a mark of a good book – especially one that’s quite long – when you want to reread it before you read the sequel, as opposed to trying to remember. For this one, I reread the first one as there were so many mysteries and hints etc. And I really liked it because it was so different to all the other books out there at the moment.

A/W 2012 – New York

It feels like I was only just doing these for S/S 12 and we’ve only just had the March issues. But it’s February which means the new season shows are here!
Jason Wu is one of my favourite designers now. I loved his A/W 11 dresses and lace masks and his S/S 12 outfits with that amazing red/orange lipstick. And now he’s done Chinese inspired clothes with beautiful reds, tassel earrings, teardrop necks (or whatever they’re called) and thick fur too! And I absolutely love the beauty; smoky grey winged eyeshadow and hair pulled tightly back into a ponytail. Now this I can do. Now where can I buy earrings like those…?
Theysken’s Theory is a more wearable everyday option. Grey and black jackets, trousers, jumpers and skirts. I love it!
Altuzarra has practical warm clothes, fur and woollen jumpers, colourful trousers beneath knee high boots. Very cool.

Guess who…

I like drawing. And I like fashion. Here’s them colliding. You have to guess what shows they’re from!

The Prettiest Dresses (in my price range anyway…)

Cream Lace Belted Skater Dress, River Island, £35
I was passing River Island when this dress on the mannequin made me freeze. It was the prettiest dress ever so I went in grabbed it, tried it on, loved it even more and bought it. Shame it’s winter and there’s still snow on the ground here so can’t wear it yet. Even though it is called a skater dress…

Laguna Niguel, Hollister, £50
I could buy every single skirt and dress from Hollister. I simply love the white lace! I bought a skirt from there a while ago, in the sale, it was over half price!! My favourite skirt ever now, white lace tiers. And this dress? And the others in the shop? Beautiful!

A Little Bit Of Fashion

Currently, I have pale, ice blue nails. The colour of the dress on the left. It’s Model’s Own ‘Blooboo’ which I bought yesterday because of my sudden new love of pastel colours. It went on really well and didn’t need two coats. It dried relatively quickly as well. Now everytime I see them, I’m reminded of Louis Vuitton!
